It can be challenging for parents to keep up with the different aspects of their children’s education including new initiatives, curriculum changes, and ever-changing technology. To address this the Quakertown Community School District is launching a Parent University to help parents learn about new initiatives and changes in the district and maximize their education experience.

“The Parent University gives our parents and guardians the opportunity to not only learn more about the technology the district uses and the initiatives we’re introducing but also to connect with district administrators and increase opportunities for communications,” said Quakertown Community School District Superintendent Matthew Friedman, Ed.D.

The district will hold its first Parent University on Wednesday, October 9 with a free, one-hour virtual course on Seesaw and PowerSchool for parents and guardians of elementary school students at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Parents and guardians can join the 11 a.m. session at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82286460256 or the 6:30 p.m. session at https://us06web.zoom/us/j/89086520943.

For parents and guardians of secondary education students (grades 6-12), the district will hold a free, hour-long Parent University on Canvas and PowerSchool on October 9 at 12 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Participants can join the 12 p.m. session at https://usweb.zoom.us/j/86128491293, or the 7:30 p.m. session at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87647090101.

Seesaw is the leading learning platform developed specifically for elementary students. It combines instructional tools, standards-aligned lessons, student portfolios, and inclusive communication features that enhance learning for students, teachers, and families. PowerSchool is a cloud-based software system that helps schools manage student information and connect parents and students to that information. Canvas is a web-based learning management system (LMS) that helps teachers and students with online, hybrid, and in-person learning.

During the Parent University sessions, parents will learn the basics of these platforms, have the opportunity to ask questions and find out who to contact for support if they encounter issues while using the technology. For parents or guardians unable to participate in the session, the district will record the sessions and make them available on the district’s website at www.qcsd.org.

The district will hold additional Parent University events on different topics throughout the school year.
