Last week, students at the Sixth Grade Center visited the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey! Students enjoyed the state of the art planetarium, the Infiniti climber, and seeing a replica skeleton of the infamous Tyrannosaurus rex “Sue” - the most complete adult Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever discovered. Students also mentioned getting to see other prehistoric superstars like a triceratops skull and experiencing what Sue’s breath might have smelled like, as well as prehistoric flowers! An amazing trip, for our amazing students.

Last week, Strayer Middle School hosted the Bucks County Intermediate Unit Reading Olympics—a program that promotes teamwork, discussion, and a love of reading. Teams of 8–16 students spent months preparing by reading 25 titles. The event culminated in an evening competition, where 12 Upper Bucks County teams—including Strayer’s “Fiction Addiction” and the Sixth Grade Center’s “Story Squad”—competed in three rounds and were recognized for their efforts.
Students began meeting with their coaches—Mr. Michael Murphy of Strayer and Mrs. Julie DiGiacomo of the Sixth Grade Center—in November. Tasked with mastering 25 books, teams divided the reading, with each student covering several titles—some nearly all. They reviewed, discussed, and quizzed one another using the 20-second format, practicing with Blooket, Gimkit, Kahoot!, Quizizz, and Quizlet. Students also shared summaries, ratings, and questions for each book, using a Google Sheet to stay organized and ensure every title was covered by at least two teammates.
Both teams represented the QCSD well! They were positive, encouraging, and respectful to the judges and are looking forward to next year’s competition and new books to read.

“Meet The Instruments Night” and parent meeting will be held Tuesday April 21st from 6-7:00pm at Strayer Middle School. This event is for any student who might like to learn a musical instrument next year in the band and orchestra program! (Current band and orchestra students do not need to attend this event unless you are considering learning a new instrument.)
At "Meet the Instruments Night" your child will get to try out their top 3 instrument choices before you enroll in the program and get an instrument for them. Parents will also learn more about the QCSD band and orchestra program, get to meet the teachers, learn about instrument rentals, and ask any questions.
You must pre-register for this event, so we will know our anticipated attendance and can provide the correct amount of supplies (mouthpieces, reeds, etc.).
Please click the link below to register:

*Registering for “Meet The Instruments Night” does not enroll your child in the program. It simply allows the students an opportunity to try out the instruments before you rent, purchase, or borrow an instrument.
If you have questions, please contact your school’s music teacher. Visit qcsd.org/music and click the CONTACT page to find their contact information.
There’s an instrument for everyone, we just need to find the right fit for your child!

For over 40 years, March has been “Music in Our Schools” Month—a time when music education is celebrated nationwide.
The goal? To raise awareness of the importance of music education and highlight that QCSD students have access to valuable music programs.
Last week’s “Wear It Wednesday” at the Sixth Grade Center featured Rock & Roll vs. Country! This Wednesday (3/18), students and staff are encouraged to wear tie-dye as we celebrate music across all cultures and generations.
Happy Music in Our Schools Month SGC!
